Introduction to White Water Kayaking
This course is aimed at novices with little or no experience in whitewater kayaking who want to learn the basics. It's an immersive formula over 2 days or 2 weekends including flatwater and whitewater kayaking concepts. Equipment (kayak, paddle, helmet, sprayskirt, and PFD) is provided by the club.
You'll be exposed to progressively challenging exercises, starting in calm water and progressing to whitewater. We'll cover various basic paddling techniques (forward stroke, sweep stroke, bracing...) as well as an introduction to rolling.
You'll learn basic whitewater kayaking maneuvers (eddy turns, ferrying, peel outs, surfing) and how to exit the kayak and swim in river currents safely. The course will conclude with a day of guided river descent through Class II rapids.

Group B: June 1-2 & 15-16, 2024 Formula over 2 Weekends To Register: Group B
Included: kayak equipment, camping ground, membership, and insurance by the Quebec Whitewater Federation.
Not Included: Wetsuit and Thermal Clothing.

Prerequisites: Exceptionally, there are no prerequisites this season. Basic concepts will be covered in this course.
It is recommended to be comfortable in the water to take this course. Swimming ability is an asset. If you have doubts that your health condition or physical abilities limit you, please contact us.
The courses are taught by instructors accredited by the Quebec Whitewater Federation.
